What GLP-1 therapy involves
GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g. semaglutide, tirzepatide) are injectable prescription medicines that reduce appetite and improve blood-sugar control. Clinics use them within medically supervised weight-management and metabolic-health programmes.
Evidence and what to consider
Among emerging longevity-adjacent drugs, GLP-1s have unusually strong evidence: a large randomised trial showed semaglutide reduced major cardiovascular events in people with obesity and existing heart disease, and effects on metabolic markers are well documented. Gastrointestinal side effects are common and discontinuation rates are meaningful. These are prescription medicines — they require proper screening, dosing and monitoring by a clinician, not self-sourcing.
